Auditions to open for Fall 2000 theater season at California State University, Dominguez Hills

Auditions have been scheduled for the Fall 2000 theater season at California State University, Dominguez Hills, during which the university's Department of Theatre Arts plans to present two plays.

The first will be "The Dining Room," by A.R. Gurney. Directed by Sydell Weiner, professor, theatre arts, the play explores the dynamic relationships of family life. Roles are available for three men and three women, each of whom will play a variety of characters — from tousled boys and giggling girls to stern grandfathers and Irish housemaids. The play is scheduled to be performed Oct. 20 to Oct. 29.

The second presentation will be "Flyin' West," by Pearl Cleage. Directed by Donis Leonard, lecturer, theatre arts, the drama explores issues ranging from domestic violence to racial conflict, and explores those questions through the lives of black women who overcame tremendous odds to work their own land and make a place for themselves. Roles are available for four women and two men.

Auditions for the two plays will be Wednesday, Sept. 6, and Thursday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. in the University Theater at CSUDH, 1000 East Victoria Street, Carson. At that time, auditioners will be asked to perform a two-minute monologue of their choice.

Further information can be obtained by contacting Sydell Weiner, (310) 243-3534, or Donis Leonard, (310) 243-2847.
