Community Auditions Open at CSU Dominguez Hills for Jubilee Choir

Auditions are open to the public for the Jubilee Choir at California State University, Dominguez Hills. The ensemble’s repertoire includes sacred and secular arrangements, spirituals, traditional and contemporary gospel music, ragtime, Broadway show tunes, blues, rhythm and blues, and jazz.

The Jubilee Choir performs throughout the Los Angeles community and generates financial support for its scholarship program. Established in 1979, the scholarships are awarded annually to student vocalists seeking a university degree and focusing on African American music.

Rehearsals are in LaCorte Hall, Room A-202, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays, and from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. The campus is located at 1000 East Victoria Street, Carson.

The choir is conducted by Hansonia Caldwell, professor of music, author of African American Music, A Chronology: 1619-1995, and An Educational Resource Manual for the Study of African American Music. She also edits The IKORO — The Community Drum, a monthly publication that presents an "African Diasporas Performing and Visual Arts Calendar" for Southern California.
