FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
California State University, Dominguez Hills, to celebrate the music of composer, arranger, and conductor Jester Hairston in concert
California State University, Dominguez Hills will feature the music of Jester Hairston, the internationally acclaimed composer, arranger, and conductor, in a workshop Friday, February 2, and in lecture and concert Tuesday, February 6.
The two programs will celebrate Hairstons career that ranged from live musical performances to acting on radio and television. For example, he played the role of Leroy on the Amos n Andy show, filled the role of Deacon Rolly Forbes on the sitcom Amen, and also arranged dozens of spirituals including the song Amen.
To praise the man in words and song, Dr. Hansonia Caldwell, professor of music, will lead the program on February 2. To remember the man in concert, Albert McNeil will lead the 50-voice South Bay Jester Hairston Centennial Demonstration Choir through many of Hairstons best-loved songs.
The two programs are free and will begin at 7 p.m. Each is sponsored by the Albert McNeil Residency program.
Further information can be obtained by contacting Hansonia Caldwell, professor of Music, at (310) 243-2463.
