Annual Conference Explores Strategies for Development of African American Men
Carson, CA - California State University, Dominguez Hills President James E. Lyons, Sr., will deliver the Keynote Address during the 10th annual conference titled, "Strategies For the Development of the African American Manchild X." The conference will be held at Compton Community College on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at 8:45 a.m.
The conference will feature workshops, which focus on health portfolios of African American males, common threads for corporate climbers in the arena of Black male entrepreneurs, and the polemics of manhood/fatherhood in the Latino, Asian and African cultures. Rap, race and rage, along with prisons in the year 2002 are also the topics of workshops.
"This conference promises to offer penetrating dialogue and challenging issues that African American males experience as they develop in today's society," said President Lyons. "I plan to draw from my experiences of development in a so-called urban ghetto and expand on the lessons that I have learned to identify areas of potential growth for our community's African American male."
Tickets for the conference can be purchased by contacting Robert Butler, executive dean of student life at Compton Community College, at (310) 900-1600, extension 2805.
The public is encouraged to attend this conference, which is hosted by the Compton Community College.
