California State University, Dominguez Hills Fundraiser
Earns Highest Professional Credential From AFP

Carson, CA - The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the largest community of professional fundraisers in the world, has awarded its highest professional certificate, the Advanced Certified Fundraising Executive (ACFRE), to Alphonce J. Brown, Jr., vice president of University Advancement for California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH).

Brown has served in his current capacity for CSUDH since July 31, 2000, and completed a two-year, four-part testing process in order to earn the ACFRE. Having served more than18 years as a professional fundraiser, Brown becomes the only recipient to obtain this professional milestone within the entire 23-campus CSU system.

"I am extremely grateful to the AFP and humbled that a body of my distinguished colleagues and respected professionals have cited me with this honor," Brown said during a special celebration held on campus to recognize his achievement. "I have been guided and inspired by the efforts of many who wish to bring the highest levels of professionalism to fundraising and philanthropy. I am thrilled the California State University System, in general, and Cal State Dominguez Hills, in particular, support professional development through certification programs like CFRE and ACFRE."

Available only to senior-level fundraisers who have worked in the profession for 10 or more years, the ACFRE is a distinguished achievement earned by only 66 professionals since the inception of the program in 1992.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals represents 25,000 members in 163 chapters throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico, working to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education, and certification programs. The Association fosters development and growth of fundraising professionals and promotes high ethical standards in the fundraising profession. AFP was formerly the National Society of Fundraising Executives (NSFRE).
