State University, Dominguez Hills Professor of Nursing
Receives Governor Davis' Appointment to Statewide Board
Carson, CA - Governor Gray Davis yesterday announced the appointment of California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) Associate Professor of Nursing, Cynthia Johnson, to the statewide Board of Registered Nursing.
Johnson, 59, of Los Angeles has been employed at CSUDH since 1990. Before that, she was a lecturer at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Nursing from 1995 through 1996, and as an assistant professor in nursing at Mount St. Mary's College from 1980 to 1986.
"I am very excited about this Governor's appointment and to be a part of the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN)," Johnson said. "During my 36 years as a nurse and 24 years as a nurse educator I have taught on all levels of nursing - associate degree, baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs. I look forward to working with the Board of Registered Nursing to continue the mission of 'protecting the health and safety of consumers and to promote quality registered nursing in the State of California.'"
Johnson's professional memberships include National Advisory Board, the National Black Nurses Association, and the Public Health Nursing Task Force of California Nurses Association. She earned a doctor of education degree from Nova University, a master of science degree in nursing from Cal State Dominguez Hills, a master of science degree from Long Island University, and a bachelor of arts degree from Marymount Manhattan College.
This nine-member decision-making board regulates the practice of more than a quarter of a million nurses and is responsible for implementation and enforcement of the Nursing Practice Act.
