Art by Design: Southern California Design Studios
A Conversation with Four Prominent Designers




CARSON, Calif. - California State University, Dominguez Hills will host an exhibition of 85 design pieces from four prominent Southern California design studios, Nov. 13 to Dec. 10, in the University Art Gallery. The design studios include, Motion Theory, Bright Strategic Design, Point Zero and SooHoo Designers.

WHO: Motion Theory; Bright Strategic Design; Point Zero; and SooHoo Designers

WHAT: Art by Design exhibit by four prominent Southern California Designers

WHERE: California State University, Dominguez Hills, University Art Gallery

WHEN: Wednesday, Nov. 13 to Tuesday, Dec. 10 - Artist Reception, Nov. 13, 6 to 8 p.m.

Highlights will include cutting-edge design pieces, including a site-specific installation by SooHoo Designers of their work for Coca-Cola, L.A. Care, Elar Partners and Epson America; SooHoo Designers' packaging program, which was designed to standardize the trade dress, strengthen and build brand equity and integrate products for their clients; and corporate identity, product packaging, interactive design and branding programs by Bright Strategic Design for National Car Rental, Mandalay Pictures, Fox Broadcasting and Princess Cruises. Motion Theory's Nike Presto campaign for the entire Asia Pacific region will also be featured.

"My object in requesting a graphic design exhibition is to provide design students the opportunity to see the reality of the graphic design profession," said Bernard Baker, CSUDH professor of graphic design and co-curator for the program. "I want the design students to see that what they are learning in the classroom is taking place in the field. I hope our campus and surrounding community will see that graphic design is a vital part of our society and that the profession provides an aesthetic quality product to our commercial environment." A 30-second teaser for "The Killing Yard," an award-winning video for the Showtime Network will also be on display.

An opening reception for the designers will take place on Nov. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. and a "Conversation with the Four Designers" will be held in conjunction with the opening reception at 7 p.m. in the University Art Gallery.

Admission is free to all gallery events. The University Art Gallery is open from 9:30 to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Visitor parking permits are available at a cost of $2 at the yellow dispensing machines at the front of each campus lot.
