California State University, Dominguez Hills To Showcase
Student Art Exhibition For Department Graduates

Artist of the Year will be announced

Carson, Calif: - Works of art ranging from computer graphics to sculpture will be on display during the Annual Student Art Exhibition at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), May 15 - 22, in the University Art Gallery at 1000 E. Victoria Street, Carson. The exhibition showcases art from the Cal State Dominguez Hills' bachelor of arts graduates. Admission is free.

Members of the City of Carson Fine Arts Commission will present an award to the 2003 "Artist of the Year," for the exhibition's most outstanding artist, selected by Cal State Dominguez Hills faculty advisors. The award presentation will take place during the exhibition's opening reception, set for 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday, May 15. Art Department Chair Louise Ivers said the City of Carson's "Artist of the Year" award is presented annually,

As part of the University's art department curriculum, each graduating art student is required to display five works produced at CSUDH. Bernard Baker, professor of art, described the importance of the exhibition. "This exhibition lets the students know their work is important and worthy of displaying to the community. The students also gain valuable practical experience from the process of preparing for the exhibition."

The University Art Gallery is open Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. CSU Dominguez Hills is located near the junction of the Harbor, Artesia and San Diego freeways. Visitor parking permits may be purchased for $2 from the yellow dispensing machines at the front of each campus parking lot.
