Stages Award-winning play, “The Foreigner”
CARSON, Calif: – California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) celebrates a new season of full theatrical productions with the Obie award-winning play, “The Foreigner,” to be presented on two weekends between Oct. 17 and Oct. 26. This critically acclaimed comedy showcases on Oct. 17, 18, 24 and 25 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. in the CSUDH University Theatre. The University is located at 1000 E. Victoria St., Carson.
Directed by CSUDH Professor of Theatre Arts Peter Rodney, “The Foreigner” displays a true classic comic style. The Bergen Record said, “Shue’s comedy is positively antic, yet pleasantly seasoned with a few dashes of sentimentality. He has raided comedy’s storehouses.”
Winner of two Obie Awards and two Outer Critics Circle Awards, “The Foreigner” illustrates what can and sometimes does happen when a group of devious characters must deal with a stranger who they think knows no English.
“This play is truly an uproarious farce that tells the tale of a loveable but socially inept Brit who while on holiday in backwoods America, tries to avoid conversing with the local yokels by posing as a foreigner who doesn’t understand a word of English,” said Rodney. “But rather than being left alone he becomes privy to their deepest secrets and schemes. The ruse, in turn, backfires into a whirlwind of hilarious consequences.”
