CHIVAS USA to Share HDC with LA Galaxy Carson, Calif. – In an announcement to be made today, the new Major League Soccer expansion team, Chivas USA, will officially announce their home in the United States as the Home Depot Center, located on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills. The original Chivas will remain in the Mexican League, giving both teams an international presence. The LA Galaxy soccer team also calls the HDC home. The decision to welcome a second team to Los Angeles was based on a study by Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), according to a WorldSoccer.com story. Demographics showed more than enough fans locally to support both teams and to create a rivalry. In the AEG study, an average of 21,083 fans per game is projected. The original Chivas, whose popularity stems from the fact that all of its players are native-born Mexicans, enjoys a strong U.S. following. According to a story in the Los Angeles Times, the team may consider players from other countries in order to reflect the diversity of its new home city. Chivas has a tradition spanning approximately 98 years, winning 10 Mexican League championships. ###
