Carson, CA – Dr. Cynthia Johnson, associate professor of nursing at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), has been elected vice president of the California Board of Registered Nursing (CBRN). Johnson was elected during a December 2003 meeting of the board. The nine-member decision-making CBRN regulates the practice of more than a quarter million nurses and is responsible for implementation of the Nursing Practice Act. The board’s mission in part is to establish and uphold competency standards in the industry and to prevent patient harm throughout the state. “I am very elated to be elected by the board members to the position of vice president of the Board of Registered Nursing,” Johnson said. “In this capacity, I will be serving with the board president, executive officer and on the Administrative Committee. I look forward to the challenge and will continue to assist in protecting the public by regulating the practice of registered nursing.” Johnson, 59, of Los Angeles has been employed at CSUDH since 1990. She was a lecturer at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Nursing from 1995 through 1996, and an assistant professor in nursing at Mount St. Mary’s College from 1980 to 1986 before her current capacity at Cal State Dominguez Hills. Johnson was originally
appointed to the board in August 2002 by Governor Gray Davis. Since then,
she has served on the board’s Education/Licensing
Committee. In her current capacity, she will help set policy while serving
on the Administrative and Nursing Practice committees. Cal State Dominguez Hills
is renowned for producing a high number of graduates from its Division of
Nursing each year. CSUDH takes pride in offering a ‘World
of Opportunity’ to everyone who desires a quality higher education.
