FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

California State University, Dominguez Hills
Joins Association of American Colleges and Universities

Carson, Calif. – California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), has been formally accepted for membership in the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) by their board of directors during their January meeting.

The AAC&U is committed to being a leading national association that advances liberal learning for all students, regardless of academic specialization or intended career. Since its founding in 1915, the membership has grown to more than 900 accredited public and private colleges and universities of every type and size.

AAC&U functions as a catalyst and facilitator, forging links among presidents, administrators and faculty members who are engaged in institutional and curricular planning. Its mission is to reinforce the collective commitment to liberal education at the national and local levels and to help individual institutions keep the quality of student learning at the core of their work as they evolve to meet new economic and social challenges, according to AAC&U officials.

Cecile Lindsay, associate vice president for Academic Programs and dean of Graduate Studies & Research, said the University is positioned to maximize the services of AAC&U by connecting students to the myriad programs that link students to more than 20 grant-supported projects offered through the association.

“With this organization, everyone on campus is a member including faculty, staff, students and administrators. AAC&U discounts on professional meetings and conferences apply to every member of the campus community,” Lindsay said.

AAC&U’s strategic plan includes the following priorities: mobilizing collaborative leadership for educational and institutional effectiveness; building faculty capacity in the context of institutional renewal; strengthening curricula to serve student and societal needs; establishing diversity as an educational and civic priority; and fostering global engagement in a diverse but connected world.

Focusing on these priorities, AAC&U runs national initiatives, sponsors meetings and summer institutes, and produces resources all designed to assist its member institutions in meeting the challenge of providing a high quality education to today’s students.
