CSU Dominguez Hills Division of Extended Education
Receives Second Grant for Television/Internet
Learning in Retirement Program

CARSON, Calif. – OLLIonline (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Online), the groundbreaking television/Internet learning in retirement series, has received a $100,000 grant from the Bernard Osher Foundation to fund a second year of broadcasts. Produced by the Dominguez Hills TV unit of the Division of Extended Education at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), this innovative program is designed to create learning communities among the underserved and hard-to-reach population of isolated, limited-mobility seniors.

OLLIonline has established a virtual learning community of seniors that extends the benefits of active learning, such as practiced by learning-in-retirement communities, to retirees and seniors who are homebound or restricted by limited mobility. It is estimated that 75,000-125,000 viewers in the Los Angeles area watch the televised OLLIonline programming at any given time during the broadcast.

In addition to the televised program, participants with access to the Internet are able to go to www.ollionline.tv to view the program live, find related books and Web sites, join or start a chat about a related topic, and watch archives of previous shows.
OLLIonline currently airs Wednesdays, 1-2 p.m., and is hosted by National Public Radio personality Gene Parrish. The theme for spring 2004 is The Promise of American Education, featuring experts in education at all levels.

OLLIonline on DHTV can be seen on LA36 in the city of Los Angeles, City View Channel 16 in Santa Monica, Channel 6 in the cities of El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, Lawndale and Torrance, and on most community college television stations throughout California. DHTV can be accessed online at http://dominguezonline.csudh.edu. For further information, viewers can join the mailing list by calling (310) 243-3782 or by visiting the Web site at www.ollionline.tv.
