MEDIA ADVISORY: Reception April 21 4-7 p.m. for New Director of African American Political and Economic Institute
David Horne
The new director is also the former director; He has already issued the first CAAPEI newsletter
Carson, CA— An open reception will be held for David Horne, the new director of the California African American Political and Economic Institute at CSU Dominguez Hills. It will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 21, in the Extended Education building at the south end of parking lot 3.
Lot 3 is accessible from the Tamcliff Street-Toro Center Drive entrance from East Victoria Street, between the 91 and 405 freeways and east of the 110 freeway via 190th Street (which becomes East Victoria Street).
Horne, an associate professor at Cal State Northridge who is taking on the additional duty of director of the Institute at CSUDH, was director of the Institute until it was moved to Dominguez Hills in 2003 from Northridge by order of Governor Gray Davis under Assembly Bill 60. Since 2003, the institute has not had the funding for a director to complete the organization of the Institute and formulate a statement of its mission. A staunch supporter of the Institute is California Assemblyman Mervyn Dymally, (D-52nd, Compton), and funding came through the office of California State University Chancellor Charles Reed.
Horne is also co-chair of the Reparations Platform Coalition in Los Angeles, editor of The Journal of Pan African Studies and the Journal of African Studies, and a member of the Los Angeles Redistricting Commission.
For more details on Horne and the Institute, see the press release of March 23, 2006, at: http://www.csudh.edu/univadv/Newsroom/2006/DH06_RH22.html
