African Embassy, CSUDH Hold Forum with International Leaders Saturday on Empowering Africa, Helping It Succeed
Carson, CA—How to help Africa succeed in the new era is the continent-size topic of an open town hall meeting and major panel discussion being held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, August 26, at California State University, Dominguez Hills. The panel members include an international group of political leaders, activists, and educators.
On the panel are Representative Karen Bass (D-47); Roy Young, dean of consul and consul general of Belize; Blair Taylor, president of the Los Angeles Urban League; Sherry Dean Simpson, executive director of the United Nations Association; E.Z. Ezozo, executive director of African Disapora Foundation; Al Washington, executive director of Africa-U.S.A. Chamber of Commerce; Munashe Furusa, chair of Africana Studies at CSU Dominguez Hills; Oliver W. Wilson, professor of Political Science at CSU Dominguez Hills and a former presenter at the Oxford University Round Table; Maulana Karenga, professor of Black Studies at CSU Long Beach; and Donald Clythis, a home health professional.
The public forum is the first in a series planned by the African Embassy and the University. To be addressed are “How best to partner with and empower Africa,” “The role of Africa in the new millennium,” and “How best can Africa succeed in this era of globalization?”
The forum will be held in Welch Hall, room D-165, which has an exterior entrance on the south side of the building. Welch Hall is across from Parking Lot 3, accessible from the Tamcliff Street-Toro Center Drive entrance from East Victoria Street. The university is at 1000 E. Victoria Street, on the east side of Avalon Boulevard between the 91 and 405 freeways, and east of the 110 freeway. The 190th Street off ramp from the southbound 110 freeway becomes East Victoria Street.
