CSUDH to Tell How to Be a Toro during Battle of Marching Bands
Dominguez Hills to be in College Fair at Home Depot Center, giving facts on getting into college
Carson, CA—A College Fair will be held in conjunction with the annual Battle of the High School Marching Bands November 18 at The Home Depot Center on the California State University, Dominguez Hills campus.
CSUDH will be part of the College Fair, along with Prairie View A&M University in Texas and Florida A&M University. All information on the application and admission processes at the participating universities will be available and there will be staff to answer questions.
Prairie View A&M and Florida A&M are among the universities that have representatives judging the eight high schools in the Southern-style marching-band competition. Both are Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Dominguez Hills is ranked as a Black Serving Institution. In fact, the judging will be heavily populated by HBCU representatives. The other two are Southern University and A&M College, and Grambling University, both from Louisiana, who are joining celebrity judges Miguel A. Gaetan from the movie “Drumline,” Verdine White of the group Earth, Wind and Fire, singer Macy Gray, and singer/drummer Sheila E.
The Home Depot Center sports complex, which includes a 27,000-seat stadium and many other facilities, is located on the west side of the 385-acre campus of Cal State Dominguez Hills. The campus is at 1000 East Victoria Street, between the Gardena Freeway (91) and the San Diego Freeway (405).
For additional information on the Cal State Dominguez Hills’ participation in the College Fair, call University Outreach and Information Services Director Gayle Ball Parker at (310) 243-3657.
