MEDIA ADVISORY: Peace Negotiators to Gather Oct. 19
WHEN: 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 19
WHERE: California State University, Dominguez Hills, Room A-506, fifth floor, Leo F. Cain Library
WHAT: Meeting and dialog by the Negotiation, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding Affinity Association
(NCRPAA). Meeting is multipurpose: to celebrate the securing of a gubernatorial proclamation for the state
of California to recognize October 2006 as Conflict Resolution and Conflict Management Month for the Association
for Conflict Resolution (ACR); to plan how to get the same proclamation next year; and to discuss conflict
resolution and peacebuilding.
WHO: Among those attending will be A. Marco Turk, the CSUDH professor and director of the Negotiation,
Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding program who spent two years working on the conflict between Greek
and Turkish Cypriots and was the only one who was able to help groups of Turks and Greeks (he is not Turkish)
hammer out an agreement during intense sessions in Oslo, Norway.

Turk will also be the keynote speaker at the December 9 ACR-Los Angeles Chapter Conference, which will also
be held at CSU Dominguez Hills.
Members of this group include those who are working in other countries to stop conflict and build peace, as well
as some working in the Los Angeles area to calm the racial conflicts of recent times in area high schools. They
will be available to answer questions from the media on those and other aspects of Negotiation, Conflict Resolution
and Peacebuilding. Some have had experience in the field of negotiated legal settlements, becoming more and more a
first-alternative option to legal conflict.
MORE INFORMATION ON OCT. 19 EVENT: Sarah Moreau, NCRPAA president, at (310) 991-0645.
