CSU Dominguez Hills to Host “The
Big Hot" Concert
Featuring Bobby Valentino and Special Guest Lil’ Fizz
Carson, CA –California
State University, Dominguez Hills will host its first “Big
Hot” concert featuring R&B vocalist/songwriter
Bobby Valentino and special guest Lil’ Fizz on Saturday,
Oct. 6.
The event will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Activities
Field on campus. Gates will open at 1:30 p.m. The event is
open to the campus community and the public.
In June 2007, a group of students and staff from Toro Productions,
programming board of the Loker Student Union, and the Multicultural
Center started to plan the Big Hot in an effort to develop
student activities and build community on campus.
“The purpose of the major concert is to bring a positive,
high profile event to campus to help further establish a
positive image of CSUDH,” said Lui Amador, Multicultural
Center Coordinator.
The planning committee took in consideration
the voice of students while deciding on the artist. “This concert
will help put Dominguez Hills on the map of universities
students want to go to. We want to show students that we
can create campus activities as major universities do all
the time,” said Cilecia Foster, Student Programmer,
Multicultural Center.
In spring of 2006, the Office of Student Life administered
a student life survey to assess the co-curricular programs
operated on campus as well as measure the level of satisfaction
with current campus activities. The results clearly showed
that students want more campus activities.
“We planned this major concert to increase student
interest in campus life and the various leadership and development
opportunities that we provide for our students,” said
Carole Desgroppes, Program Coordinator, Loker Student Union.
The collaborative efforts between various departments of
the university to produce this event have been tremendous.
“We hope to make it an annual event that will become
a tradition for the campus. The Big Hot could be a major
concert or a major lecture, whichever will respond to the
needs and wants of CSUDH students,” said Marco Dowell,
Director of the Office of Student Life.
The campus is located at 1000 E. Victoria Street in the
City of Carson near the junction of the Harbor, Artesia and
San Diego freeways. The concert will be held in the Activity
Field, located at the corner of Toro Center Drive and Pacific
View Drive on campus. Visitor parking permits may be purchased
for $3 at the yellow dispensing machines at the front of
each campus lot.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at www.ticketweb.com.
CSUDH students can purchase tickets for $8 by contacting
Toro Productions at (310) 243-2640 or Multicultural Center
at (310) 243-2519.
