California State University Comment on Faculty Union Strike Vote

(From the California State University Office of the Chancellor) - The California State University and the faculty union are still in the fact-finding
stage of bargaining.
During this period of dispute resolution procedures both parties continue to be engaged in finding a solution.
The CSU is committed to completing the fact-finding process with the goal of reaching an agreement as quickly
as possible.
We believe that if there is no agreement at the end of the fact-finding process, our faculty will keep the
students’ well being in perspective and do nothing to harm their educational experience, or their progress
toward degree completion.
The CSU employs approximately 22,500 faculty members of which 10,100 are members of the union. A strike action
requires 50% plus one vote of those who are members of the union.
The CSU has made a fair offer to the faculty union that provides increases of more than 24 percent to be paid
over the next three years. We hope to come to an agreement with the union, so our faculty can receive, sooner
rather than later, the salary increase they deserve.
Background
The contract between the CSU and the union was first scheduled to expire on June 30, 2005. It has been extended
several times and a contract extension is now in effect until the fact finding report is made public.
