CSU Dominguez Hills Hosts UN Ambassadors

(Carson, CA)— Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 24, the California African American Political & Economic Institute (CAAPEI) on the California State University, Dominguez Hills campus and the university’s Office of Government and Community Relations, in conjunction with the Humpty Dumpty Institute, will host a luncheon in honor of 10 visiting United Nations ambassadors representing Bosnia, China, Malawi, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, the United States, Yemen and the United Nations Office of the Secretary General. Included in the delegation will be Humpty Dumpty Institute executive director Joseph Merante and board president Ralph Cwerman.

A New York-based organization established in 1998 by a group of private sector business men, the Humpty Dumpty Institute is focused on global humanitarian issues, and, in particular, strengthening the relationship between the U.S. and the UN. As a very effective exercise in cultural exchange and public diplomacy, the HDI has annually coordinated a national tour for UN ambassadors as part of that relationship building and to show them some of the beauty and majesty of this country. To date, working in conjunction with state and municipal officials, and universities across the country, the HDI has taken UN ambassadors to more than ten major cities. For more information, visit www.thehdi.org.

This visit takes them to Los Angeles, where they will also be visiting the University of Southern California, the Beverly Hilton, the city of Santa Monica, Fox Studios in Century City, and the Getty Center, among other places.

Dr. Mildred Garcia, the recently inaugurated president of CSUDH, has said repeatedly that CSUDH is preparing its students to become leaders in a global society, and that the university’s diverse population is a microcosm of the world. The luncheon for the UN ambassadors fits right within that vision.
