FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CSU Dominguez Hills to host Mexican
Consul General Juan Marcos Gutierrez
WHEN: 11 a.m., Tues. Oct. 7
WHERE: Loker Student Union Dominguez
Ballroom, California State University, Dominguez Hills, 1000 E.
Victoria St., Carson, CA 90747
(Carson, CA)— California
State University Dominguez Hills welcomes the Honorable Juan Marcos
Gutierrez, Mexico’s consul general in Los Angeles, to campus
on Tuesday, October 7.
Beginning at 11 a.m. in the Loker Student Union Dominguez Ballroom,
Consul General Gutierrez will lead a panel discussion with experts
from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and the Federal Foreign
Trade Association on the regional and global impacts of a mega
container port planned for the Northern Baja California town of
Punta Colonet. If the project goes through, the Punta Colonet port
would be able to handle one million 20-foot containers annually,
rivaling the number of ships that go through the Ports of Los Angeles
and Long Beach.
Juan Marcos Guitierrez became the Mexican
consul general in Los Angeles earlier this year. The 38-year-old
held the same post in
Denver from 2004 to 2006; he has also served as Tijuana’s
city attorney and as a federal congressman for the National Action
Party. He holds a law degree from the Autonomous University of
Baja and earned post-graduate certificates in financial, trade
dispute resolution and fiscal law.
