Prospective Students Advised to Apply Early For Fall 2009

(Carson, CA)— High school seniors considering attending California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) beginning fall 2009 are encouraged to get their applications in early.

The priority application period for the California State University system for the 2009-2010 academic year is now through Nov. 30, and officials are strongly advising students to submit their applications through the CSU application web site, www.csumentor.edu, well before the November deadline to ensure admittance.

The deadline does not apply to transfer students, graduate students or those seeking teaching credentials. Application deadlines for those students vary, but all students are still encouraged not to wait to submit their applications.

The urgency to apply early is tied directly to the state’s ongoing budget crisis. It is anticipated the CSU system will not receive an increase in funding for enrollment growth for the 2009-2010 academic year. As a result, and despite record numbers of high school graduates interested in going to college, the CSU is being forced to slow enrollment by closing the freshmen application period earlier than ever.

Students intending to enroll at CSU Dominguez Hills as first-time freshmen in fall 2009 can get information about the campus by logging on to www.csudh.edu and clicking on the “Apply Today” link. There they can link to www.csumentor.edu, as well as find answers to questions about the cost to attend, financial aid opportunities, degree programs, and student housing. The page also includes a link to the university’s College Portrait, which provides extensive information about student demographics, graduation rates, success and progress.

“ Cal State Dominguez Hills serves a vital role for educating students in the South Bay and greater Los Angeles region,” said Sue Borrego, vice president of planning and enrollment management. “With small class sizes and excellent faculty, Dominguez Hills helps students develop the critical skills necessary to serve the community and contribute to the local economy. It is critical that they not miss such an opportunity, so we encourage them to apply early.”
