In presenting the check, Neil talked of
BP’s strong support
of CSU Dominguez Hills and its mission to educate the local community.
The check represents a continuation of that commitment, he said.
“BP believes that investing in Cal State University, Dominguez
Hills is money well spent,” Neil said. “It is an investment
in this community, an investment in the promising students here,
and an investment in the future.”
The $50,000 BP Scholarship will provide five $2,000 scholarships
annually over a five-year period to first-time freshman or community
college transfer students living in Carson, Long Beach or Wilmington
who seek degrees in either chemistry, physics, mathematics, business
administration or environmental sciences. The first scholarships
will be awarded for fall 2009.
“We are so grateful for this donation to start a new scholarship
for our students,” CSUDH President Mildred García
said. “BP understands that our institution and students are
critical to the local workforce and economy, and this is a great
example of the community and business partnerships that we value.”
