FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Still Time to Apply to CSUDH for Fall 2009
One of only two CSU campuses in the Los Angeles area still accepting freshman applications

(Carson, CA) – As the spring semester gets underway this week at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), officials are advising those who wish to attend in the fall to submit their completed applications now.

March 1 is the final filing deadline for first-time freshman seeking admission to the university. CSUDH is one of only two CSU campuses in the Los Angeles area—one of only nine statewide—accepting applications. The nine CSU campuses still open are CSU Bakersfield, Dominguez Hills, East Bay, Humboldt, Los Angeles, Monterey Bay, Sacramento, San Bernardino, and California Maritime.

The deadline does not apply to upper-division transfer students, graduate students or those seeking teaching credentials. Application deadlines for those students vary, but all students are encouraged to submit their applications as early as possible.

In November, as a result of the state’s worsening financial crisis, the CSU declared system-wide impaction and announced that it was maintaining enrollment 2007-08 levels. Campuses most affected were those that have historically been over-enrolled. To curb their enrollment, most of those campuses stopped accepting applications by the Nov. 30 priority deadline and, in many cases, instituted stricter admissions standards.

“Cal State Dominguez Hills was not directly affected by the system-wide impaction,” said Dr. Sue Borrego, vice president of planning and enrollment management at CSUDH. “We can still accommodate students in the Southern California region. However, prospective freshman should not delay in applying. Our enrollment numbers have increased significantly for the spring semester and we anticipate reaching our enrollment targets for fall.”

Students intending to enroll at CSU Dominguez Hills as first-time freshmen in fall 2009 can get information about the campus by logging on to www.csudh.edu and clicking on the “Apply Now” link. There they can link to www.csumentor.edu, as well as find answers to questions about the cost to attend, financial aid opportunities, degree programs, and student housing. The page also includes a link to the university’s College Portrait, which provides extensive information about student demographics, graduation rates, success and progress.
