(Carson, CA) – Two local colleges are now offering their students low-cost transit passes for the Spring semester as part of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (Metro) Institutional Pass program.

California State University, Dominguez Hills and El Camino College Compton Center are selling campus-subsidized transit passes for their students.  CSU Dominguez Hills is offering semester passes for fulltime students with 12 or more units for $75. Through the Metro program, students save half the cost per semester.
El Camino College Compton Center, through a special OMW (On My Way) 2 Compton program, is offering passes to students taking six or more credits for $15, saving students more than $120 per semester. Students can purchase a Metro sticker for their ID card at the Bursar’s office of their campus.

“We’re very pleased that our participation in Metro’s I-Pass program enables us to offer this excellent value to our students,” said Greg Saks, vice president for University Advancement at CSU Dominguez Hills. “This is a win-win in the face of tough economic and environmental challenges. In addition to offering our students a greatly reduced fare, this partnership with Metro also helps to ease traffic congestion and improve air quality. Our university is committed to sustainability projects that protect the environment and this program is one of many programs on campus that we are very proud of.”

The  significant savings of the program will help students from both campuses offset other education-related expenses such as school supplies, textbooks and tuition.  Additionally, the program can save students money on automobile-related expenses such as ownership, fuel and parking costs.

“We are pleased to offer this special program to our students at a significant cost savings, providing them with a reliable way to get to our campus,” said Dr. Lawrence M. Cox, Provost at the El Camino College Compton Center.

Metro’s Institution Pass is valid on Metro buses and Metro Rail lines seven days a week.  Students can use the transit access passes for all other transportation needs, including work, shopping or recreation.

These colleges join eleven others  currently enrolled in Metro’s Institutional Pass program.  Other schools include UCLA, Rio Hondo College and the nine Los Angeles Community Colleges: LACC, LATTC, East LA, Pierce, Valley, Mission, West LA, Harbor, and Southwest.
