New Scholarship for CSU Dominguez Hills Students Named in Honor of Yvonne Burke

(Carson, CA) – California State University, Dominguez Hills is pleased to announce the establishment of a new scholarship in honor of former Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke, who retired in November 2008 after serving as the Second District representative since 1992.

The Yvonne B. Burke Endowed Scholarship Fund was made possible through a $50,000 gift from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in recognition of their former colleague’s years on the board and her longtime support of CSU Dominguez Hills.

“California State University, Dominguez Hills educates many of the best and brightest who contribute to our community in every field. I am proud and thankful that I can be apart of the enhancement of these students through this scholarship,” Burke said. “I thank my former colleagues of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for establishing this scholarship in my name and for recognizing the imperative need to invest in our future.”

Student scholarships of approximately $2,500 will be awarded annually from the interested earned on the endowed fund. The first scholarships will be awarded beginning spring 2010. All students of CSU Dominguez Hills in good academic standing are eligible to apply.

For more information on the Yvonne B. Burke Endowed Scholarship Fund, contact the Office of Financial Aid at (310) 243-3691. Information will also be online as the initial application period draws closer, likely in late 2009, at www.csudh.edu/fin_aid/scholarships.htm.
