CSUDH, The Home Depot Center & WIN WIN Global Present the Inaugural Music, Movies & More Symposium

(Carson, CA) – The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation and California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) have teamed up to present the inaugural “Music, Movies and More Symposium” on Friday, June 26.  The unique program will feature three afternoon sessions with professionals from the entertainment industry, including Grammy-award winning audio engineer, studio designer and author Dave Hampton, DJ Spinderella of Salt-n-Pepa, 38-year music industry veteran and Grammy-nominated Kashif, plus several others.

The free symposium, held from noon to 4:30 p.m. on the campus of CSUDH, will introduce college and high school students to some of the most powerful people in the entertainment industry – both on-stage and behind-the-scenes – and educate them on the future of the industry.  The symposium is free and limited to 300 people, and registration is being accepted online now at www.homedepotcenter.com.   

“We are pleased to present this one-of-a-kind educational experience for students in celebration of the entertainment industry and Black Music Month in June,” said Tamala Lewis, Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation & Community Affairs Director.  “One of the goals of The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation is to provide access and opportunities in the entertainment industry for young people in our community.  We are thankful for the support of our sponsors and panelists who have helped to bring this unique event to students in Carson and surrounding areas.”

This one-day event will feature three panel discussions: music technology, including the historical aspects of sound and music, computer music, recording and composition; visual arts, highlighting graphic design, performance, theater and digital media arts; and will conclude with entertainment business, a discussion about business practices, business plans, marketing, promotion, public relations, industry “green” initiatives and booking.  The morning kicks off with a special five-minute demo listening session by music industry executives. This session is optional and costs $30 ($25 for CSUDH students), but is a must for aspiring artists.

In addition to Dave Hampton, DJ Spinderella and Kashif, other panelists include freelance director, editor and camera operator Adam McFaddin Ballard; Lucille Hunt, senior vice president of Mack Avenue Records, Inc.; audio engineer and producer Lisa R. Chamblee-Hampton; Allan “The Barron Cole, general manager of Win Win Global; Chaz Shepherd, PPK Recording Group artist; and several others.

Proceeds from the event will go toward three scholarships that will be awarded to CSUDH students headed into the entertainment industry, sponsored by Win Win Global.  Two of the scholarships will be given to students who have distinguished themselves academically, and the third will be awarded to a student with promise who will benefit from financial assistance.  For information on applying for the Win Win Global scholarships, please contact the CSUDH Office of Development at (310) 243-2182 or giving@csudh.edu.
