Budget Update from President García

February 4, 2011. Dear Campus Community, At the Academic Senate Meeting on Wednesday I had the opportunity to share information about the proposed budget that I want to provide to the campus community. As you all are aware, Governor Brown has unveiled his proposed budget plan that includes a $500 million reduction to the CSU.  His proposed reductions in conjunction with the assumed tax extensions will serve to eliminate an approximate $25 billion deficit for the State of California, and as he states “will get the budget in balance.”  It should be noted that California is not alone with these challenges; reports indicate that thirty-five states are projecting budget shortfalls for 2012, and with no federal stimulus dollars available to help, we all have significant challenges ahead of us. Joint Legislative Committee Confirms Cuts
to the CSU’s Budget

March 1, 2011. The Budget Conference Committee acted Friday to confirm Gov. Jerry Brown’s proposed cuts to higher education, which include a $500 million reduction to the CSU’s 2011-2012 budget. The Budget Conference Committee, which is made up of five members of each house, has been meeting to work out the differences between the Assembly and Senate versions of the budget bill. (more…)

Trustees request funding from Governor and Legislature to ‘buy out’ 2011-12 increase

November 10, 2010. The California State University Board of Trustees today approved a two-step tuition increase needed to sustain enrollment, classes and services for current students. California State University Adopts 2011-12 Budget

$379 million increase in state funding sought to meet operational and enrollment needs
