Director's Message

Welcome to CSU Dominguez Hills Upward Bound, an educational opportunity program hosted by our campus and funded by the U.S. Department of Education/TRIO.  We are pleased to announce that Upward Bound makes its triumphant return back to CSUDH and we are excited about what is in store for the campus and the community.  Upward Bound is a college preparatory program designed to produce the skills and motivation necessary for success in postsecondary education among high school students who are from low income families and are potential first generation college students.

Our staff is committed to providing a nurturing and caring environment to ensure that each student is provided with a quality opportunity in education regardless of race or ethnic background. It is our goal to help disadvantaged students overcome academic and financial barriers to higher education by providing assistance in:

  • literature and language arts
  • mathematics
  • science and technology
  • academic and personal counseling
  • high school exit exams
  • character education and leadership development
  • college preparation
  • scholarship information
  • financial aid

Every student will be encouraged to set high standards and we will assist them in making their dreams become a reality. We will set the bar high for students and help them to become a successful college graduate working in businesses, government, medicine, law, education, research, finance, politics, computer science, technology and/or engineering.

Why am I so passionate and confident in what Upward Bound can accomplish?  Because I am a product of the program and I know firsthand the power of Upward Bound. I had some unique problems as a high school student that only a program like Upward Bound could solve. The program and the staff made huge investments in my future and never gave up on me.  So, as Director, I plan to give as well as I received!

I hope you will gain more insight about our program and the services we provide. We welcome and appreciate the interest of potential students, parents, educators, mentors, and corporate sponsors.  For additional information, please feel free to contact us at 310-243-3670. We would be glad to meet with you and answer any questions about our program. Thank you for visiting our website.
