I attended the University of California, Riverside and earned my BA in Psychology.  Upon earning my undergraduate degree I knew that I wanted to further my education and explore a career in College Administration.  I successfully completed the Counseling in Student Affairs Program at the University of California, Los Angeles and earned my M.Ed.  My goal is to one day earn my doctorate and to continue serving underrepresented students.

In working on different campuses with various student populations, I have discovered that there is nothing more rewarding than helping students realize their academic potential.  I am very dedicated to carrying out the mission and goals of the Upward Bound Program.  It is a great honor to assist students and parents in successfully navigating through high school and become eligible for college admissions. I am excited about assisting in the start-up program here at Dominguez Hills and am confident that we will have successful results.

Giovanni Ortega is the second of two children born to Mexican immigrant parents. He was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and attended LAUSD public schools from grades K-12th.  He is the first in his family to go to college. He graduated from Hamilton High school in 1998 and went on to Santa Monica College.  After attending SMC for three years he transferred to the University of California Los Angeles as a Sociology major.  During his years at UCLA he became passionate about working with outreach programs that encouraged and promoted postsecondary education to underrepresented students.

Currently, Giovanni attends the University of Southern California and is pursuing a Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis in Postsecondary Administration and Student Affairs.  He is thrilled to be a part of CSU Dominguez Hills TRIO program and looks forward to working with Upward Bound to ensure a better future for our youth.
