Giovanni
Ortega is the second of two children born to Mexican
immigrant parents. He was born and raised in Los Angeles,
California and attended LAUSD public schools from grades
K-12th. He is the first in his family to go to college. He
graduated from Hamilton High school in 1998 and went on to
Santa Monica College. After attending SMC for three years
he transferred to the University of California Los Angeles
as a Sociology major. During his years at UCLA he became
passionate about working with outreach programs that
encouraged and promoted postsecondary education to
underrepresented students.
Currently, Giovanni attends the University of Southern
California and is pursuing a Masters Degree in Education
with an emphasis in Postsecondary Administration and Student
Affairs. He is thrilled to be a part of CSU Dominguez Hills
TRIO program and looks forward to working with Upward Bound
to ensure a better future for our youth.
