What is Upward Bound? The Upward Bound Program at California State University, Dominguez Hills is a college preparatory program that assists 50 eligible high school students in graduating from high school, entering college and successfully earning their baccalaureate degree. This exclusive program is funded by the United States Department of Education and is specifically designed for low-income and/or first generation students. The program provides academic advising, tutoring, workshops, stipends, and college campus tours, all at no cost to program participants. The goal of the Upward Bound Program is to assist, prepare, and motivate students throughout their academic careers. The program provides academic instruction in the following core curriculum: Mathematics, Science, Critical Thinking and Foreign Language. Program participants receive services in two components: The Academic Year and the Summer Program. The Upward Bound experience is demanding. But the learning environment of Upward Bound will provide you with the guidance to meet those challenges. Your Upward Bound staff will come to know your academic and personal strengths and will help you reach your full potential. In the program you will: 1) Learn how to study smart and manage time wisely; 2) Get a head start on next year’s classes; 3) Get to know what college life is like by spending time in the summer at Dominguez Hills and other local and national colleges; 4) Find out more about yourself, your interests, and your potential for success; and 5) Prepare, be admitted, and succeed in college. Lastly, we are not just about academics! We have some fun and rewarding experiences planned for you also! |
