WASC Testimonials
Lilyan Guillen

Freshman, CSUDH, Sociology
UNV101
I am full Mexican, first time college student. My family pushed me to go to college, but they didn’t go to college. I choose CSUDH because you have my major and it is close to home. I really like the campus and the class size ratio to the teacher. I have had a wonderful experience so far in my first semester.
WASC questions:
Please describe your experiences in UNV 101?
I had a wonderful experience. My professors were amazing! Basically the main point of UNV 101 was how to succeed in college. The strategies I got from that I used it on my other classes. My grades are good and I have had a wonderful experience.
How has this course helped you with your other classes?
In UNV 101 they give strategies. They teach you different strategies. I took in what I needed to take in to apply it to my other classes. Like planning ahead or time management or when you are stressed. Things like that they teach you that I didn’t know before and I have used these for my other classes.
What were your perceptions of college before you took UNV 101 and how have they changed?
When I first took UNV 101 I didn’t think it was going to help me. It was common sense. Then you say this class is going to piece of cake, but as you go along they make you do different activities. We had this one activity that we had to go different places on campus. Like where is the library? And who this is? It helps me get connected to know different organizations and activities that they offer. Like C.L.A.S.S. made us do an assignment and that has helped me in my English when I need to get papers edited and I am very grateful about that.
