Keith Kauffman

Chief Keith Kauffman, a two-time South Bay Medal of Valor winner, was appointed police chief in Redondo Beach of the 96-officer force. He has been a law enforcement officer for over twenty years and has worked patrol, gangs, narcotics, SWAT (from operator to team commander), traffic, and training.
 
Kauffman is passionate about community-oriented policing programs, and is a co-creator of Hawthorne’s "Coffee with a Cop" program that has been adopted by more than 1,000 departments across the country. There are now events in all 50 states, nine different countries, and in four languages. He also started a Tactical Medicine program that grew to a team including doctors, paramedics, and numerous officers who have set the standard now being used by the state.  Keith also brought service dogs into law enforcement and his was one of two departments across the US to utilize these specialized dogs for special victims, people experiencing trauma, and community engagement. Chief Kauffman is currently growing a drone program at Redondo PD and heads one of the first west coast agencies to utilize Vapor Wake dogs for explosive detection.

In his spare time Keith enjoys surfing, spearfishing, off road motorcycles, and spending time with his family in the South Bay.
