FAQ

Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the CSUDH Brand program.

Q: Why is it important to follow the CSU Dominguez Hills branding standards?

A: The guidelines, applied correctly and consistently, enable us to project a strong, coherent identity for California State University, Dominguez Hills and help to prevent confusion among our audiences. Proper use of CSU Dominguez Hills’ official signatures (logo, graphic signatures and seal) is an important part of the branding process, enhancing our image as a quality educational institution.

Q: May I still use an old logo or seal?

A: No. This CSUDH Brand system replaces all previous versions of the CSU Dominguez Hills seal and CSU Dominguez Hills logo. Those graphics should be considered obsolete and may no longer be used, except in a historical context.

Q: What color is the CSU logo?

A: The official CSU Dominguez Hills logo colors are Pantone Matching System (PMS) 209 red ("Toro Red") and PMS Cool Gray 9 (or black at 75%). The logo can also be reproduced in black or reversed out on dark background. See the Logo and Color Palette sections of this guide for specifics.

Q: I’m in a hurry. Why can’t I just recreate the logo?

A: Recreating the logo will not reproduce the logo accurately. The CSU Dominguez Hills logo uses custom typography that has been designed for the mark, and the characters have specific spatial relationships and alignment. Selecting a similar font will invariably produce differences that will detract from the design.

Q: Can our college or department have its own logo?

A: A variation of the CSU Dominguez Hills logo can be developed by the University Communications and Marketing office, if warranted, which includes your department name, as shown in the Endorsed Logos section of this guide. Contact University Communications and Marketing for recommendations and assistance.

Q: Has the CSU Dominguez Hills seal changed?

A: The University Seal was redesigned in 2012 and includes illustrations that symbolize the history and mission of CSU Dominguez Hills.

Q: When can I use the University Seal?

A: The seal is used primarily as a signal of authentication and should only be used on official CSU Dominguez Hills documents, such as diplomas, transcripts, certificates, contracts, formal stationery and invitations. The CSU Dominguez Hills logo should be used predominantly for all general promotion uses, such as marketing publications, CSU Dominguez Hills merchandise and annual reports. In order to maintain its integrity and effectiveness, the University Seal should not be used for informal or routine materials.
