Biography

Burhan F. Yavas is an Emeritus Professor in the department of Accounting, Finance & Economics at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) where he teaches undergraduate and MBA courses in International Business & Economics. He has held teaching positions at University of Southern California, Pepperdine University, Bilkent University (Turkey), Mosbach University ( Germany), University of Durres (Albania) and National Economics University (Vietnam). He received a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Economics from the University of Southern California, and a B.A. in Finance from the University of Ankara in Turkey.

Dr. Yavas is a member the International Trade and Finance Association (ITFA), Academy of International Business (AIB) and Western Decision Sciences Institute (WDSI). He edited WDSI’s journal, Journal of Business and Management (1993-2000) and he has served on the editorial boards of four professional journals. His publications include studies in the areas of international financial markets, international comparative management, countertrade and country risk analysis. He has published over one hundred articles some of which appeared in such journals as International Journal of Finance and Economics, Research in International Business and Finance, North American Journal of Economics and Finance, Management International Review, Journal of Multinational Financial Management, Advances in International Comparative Management, International Trade Journal, International Journal of Cross Cultural Management, Journal of Global Marketing, Quality Progress and American Business Review.

Dr. Yavas received numerous awards for his scholarship and teaching which include four Research Awards and three conference best paper awards, He also received the College of Business & Public Administration’s Hyundai Outstanding Professor award in 2001. He was previously chosen CSU Dominguez Hills Outstanding Professor in 1996. He has worked on grants received from the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Agriculture and CSU Center for International Business Research (CIBER).

Yavas has consulted for corporations and financial institutions in the areas of export-import management, market surveys, business forecasting and corporate strategy. Former clients include a major financial institution in California, Beaumont Corporation (NY), Los Angeles Flower Mart, (CA), IQ Now (Irvine, CA), and Health Windows (CA).
