HEX 985 | Human Sexuality School Health Education (10 CEUs)

Human Sexuality School Health Education This course prepares K-12 professionals to successfully implement Sections 4107 and 4108 of SSAE for cognitively and age appropriate human sexuality school health education.

Exploration of research-based teaching strategies, alignment with education standards and evaluation of resources will support the development of cognitively and age appropriate human sexuality school health education lessons and parent education materials reflective of Sections 4107 and 4108 of SSAE.

Prerequisites

This is an upper level course and a degree or experience in general education, school administration, school health education, school nursing, school counseling, or public health education is strongly recommended.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Critique how life experiences, personal beliefs, and respective philosophies may impact attitudes and perceptions about human sexuality education in K-12 schools.
  2. Create teacher tools that accurately reflect anatomy and physiology of the human reproductive system, the domains of human sexuality, and sexual risk reduction among K-12 populations.
  3. Synthesize evidence-based resources, materials, and approaches to K-12 human sexuality health education among PK-12 school populations.
  4. Create lessons, position papers, standards analyses, and teacher support materials for effective K-12 human sexuality health education.
  5. Develop scientifically-research-based resources to engage parents and leaders in addressing policies, practices and protocols for safe and effective K-12 human sexuality health education.
