Deborah Flint was appointed chief executive officer of Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) in June 2015, with oversight of Los Angeles International (LAX) and Van Nuys (VNY) airports. With over 3,000 employees serving 80.9 million passengers in 2016, LAX is currently the fourth busiest airport in the world.

Flint leads the team responsible for creating a world class airport that is a modern reflection of today’s global society. Her responsibilities involve managing the $8.5 billion LAX modernization project, the largest public works project in the history of Los Angeles. Included is a $5.5 million rail program that will seamlessly connect public transportation to the airport and decrease congestion. She also oversees the development and advancement of security policies and strategies that exceed federal security regulations and provide world-class law enforcement for the protection of the public.

Additionally, Flint continues to position VNY, one of the world’s busiest general aviation airports, as a vital community partner that contributes more than $1.3 billion each year to the Southern California economy.

Flint came to LAWA from the Port of Oakland, where she held the position of aviation director for five years, responsible for management, business development and operation of Oakland International Airport (OAK). While there, she delivered the $480-milliion BART Airport Rail project; redesigned OAK’s customer experience; and marketed, developed and negotiated numerous development and investment transactions in terminal renovation and hangar development.

Flint has served on President Obama’s Advisory Committee on Aviation Consumer Protection, and serves on the Oversight Committee of the Transportation Research Board's Airport Cooperative Research Program; is a director on the Airports Council International World Board; is president of the California Airports Council; and serves on the FAA Drone Advisory Committee, which was formed in 2016 to advise the Federal Aviation Administration on unmanned aerial systems.

A proud graduate of the California State University system, Flint earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from San Jose State University.

Deborah Flint is the keynote speaker for the 2017 College of Arts and Humanities, College of Education, and College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences commencement ceremony, Friday, May 19, 4 p.m.
