Introduction to Laboratory Safety Fundamentals. Topics include: analyzing hazards, controlling exposure and minimizing risk, and vigilance in the laboratory.

CSUDH Lab Safety Cal/OSHA

This overview course is designed for employees who work in an industrial, clinical, or academic laboratory setting. It will serve to educate the laboratory employee to diverse safety and health concerns related to their job. The content in this course is designed to comply with the intent of the applicable regulatory requirements. This course focuses on engineering, environment, health and safety, and information technology.

CSUDH Hazardous Communications

This course will acquaint you with the precautions that both you and your employer must take in order to safely use, handle, and store hazardous chemicals in the workplace. The content in this course is designed to comply with the intent of the applicable regulatory requirements.

CSUDH Safety Principles of Compressed Gas Safety

Many industrial and laboratory operations require the use of compressed gases for a variety of different operations. This course will establish what elements are needed for an effective compressed gas safety program. The content in this course is designed to comply with the intent of the applicable regulatory requirements.

CSUDH Cryogenic Safety

Cryogenic materials are commonly used in the workplace for a variety of purposes, such as refrigeration, medical applications, and rocket propulsion. Due to their extremely cold temperatures, cryogenic materials can be hazardous if handled and stored incorrectly. Any employees handling cryogenic materials must wear personal protective equipment. Cryogenic materials are stored in specially designed containers known as dewars. This course explains how to recognize different types of cryogenic materials in the workplace and identifies the potential dangers of storing and handling these material incorrectly. It identifies recommended equipment and the standard operating procedures for handling and storing cryogenic materials safely. It also describes the most effective course of action if accidents involving cryogenic materials occur, including recommended methods for treating employees injured by cryogenic materials.

Ladder Safety

This course provides information about the safe use of portable and fixed ladders. The intent of the course is to provide the learner with information about the hazards involved with the use of ladders and control methods that will greatly reduce these hazards. The content in this course is designed to comply with the intent of the applicable regulatory requirements. Learner objectives are to identify hazards related to the general use of ladders and how to control these hazards; describe the types of portable ladders and their use, capacities, and safety considerations; describe the specific use, capacities, and safety features of fixed ladders; and specify proper guidelines for ladder care and maintenance.

CSUDH Fire Safety & Prevention

(Fire Extinguisher Training)

Every year, workplace fires and explosions kill and injure people, and destroy many businesses. In this course, you'll gain an understanding of the elements required for a fire to start and learn ways to prevent fires in the workplace. You'll learn how to respond, including how to evacuate the premises, if there's a fire in your workplace. You'll also learn how to select and use a fire extinguisher.

CSUDH Bloodborne Pathogens Training

This course will provide you with a basic understanding of bloodborne pathogens, common modes of transmission, methods of prevention, and what to do if an exposure occurs. Information presented will help minimize serious health risks to persons who may have personal exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials in the workplace. The content in this course is designed to comply with the intent of the applicable regulatory requirements

CSUDH Biosafety Hazardous Waste Handling & Disposal

This course teaches basic precautions against the transmission of infection from biohazardous waste in the workplace. It describes the various categories of biohazardous waste and how infection can be transmitted by biohazardous waste. It also outlines standard safety precautions against transmission, and guidelines for the safe storage, treatment, and disposal of biohazardous waste. It also describes the steps for cleaning up a biohazardous spillage.

CSUDH Heat Stress Recognition & Prevention

Each year, more people in the United States die from extreme heat than from hurricanes, lightning, tornados, floods, and earthquakes combined. This course will discuss the effects of heat on your body, outline the risk factors for heat-related illnesses, and describe the associated treatments for each. This training will also explain several control measure techniques and safe work practices that you can use to prevent heat-related stresses. The content in this course is designed to comply with the intent of the applicable regulatory requirements. Learner objectives are to describe how your body handles heat and what personal factors may lead to heat stress; identify the signs, symptoms, and first aid treatments of heat-related illnesses; and recall preventive measures that you can take to minimize heat stress.

CSUDH Heat Illness & Prevention for Supervisors

Heat-related illnesses can be life threatening, so it's crucial for supervisors to take the proper preventative actions and intervene appropriately to maximize workplace safety. This course equips supervisors to recognize the risk factors, signs, and symptoms of heat-related illnesses, and presents first aid guidelines for treating these illnesses. The course also explores supervisors' responsibilities for preventing and responding to heat-related illnesses, and outlines workplace high heat requirements.

CSUDH Electrical Safety Cal/OSHA

This is an awareness-level course that covers how to work safely with electricity. It focuses on specific electrical hazards found in the workplace and methods to minimize or eliminate those hazards. The content in this course is designed to comply with the intent of the applicable regulatory requirements. Learner objectives are to recall basic rules of electricity as they relate to electrical safety, identify actions to take in an electricity-related emergency, recognize common electrical hazards, and describe methods to reduce or eliminate electrical hazards.

CSUDH (CSU) N95 Voluntary Use

Overview of N-95 Respirator Use. Topics include: How to put on N-95 Respirators, proper use and maintenance, required use, voluntary use, and limitations. Based on Cal/OSHA's regulation for worker use of respirators (Title 8 CCR.5144).

N95 respirators, surgical masks, dust masks and cloth face coverings are designed for different uses. CSUDH (CSU) Aerosol Transmissible Disease (ATD) for labs

Participants will learn to determine when there is a transmission risk from small particles or droplets. Identify work that requires aerosol safety procedures. Use controls to reduce your risk of exposure to aerosol transmissible pathogens. Respond to an aerosol transmissible pathogen exposure incident. Safety dispose of waste contaminated with aerosol transmissible pathogens.

CSUDH Welding, Cutting, & Brazing

Welding, cutting, and brazing are hazardous activities that pose a unique combination of both safety and health risks to more than 500,000 workers in a wide variety of industries. The risk from fatal injuries alone is more than four deaths per thousand workers over a working lifetime. This course will inform learners of potential health and safety risks unique to welding, cutting, and brazing. The content in this course is designed to comply with the intent of the applicable regulatory requirements.

CSUDH 3B & 4 LASER Safety

This course is intended to provide awareness of the fundamentals of Class 3B (moderate) and 4 (high-power) lasers or laser systems. The content in this course is designed to comply with the intent of the applicable ANSI regulatory requirements.

CSUDH Carcinogen Safety

Carcinogens are substances that can cause cancer, especially with multiple exposures over an extended period of time. These substances can be inhaled, ingested, absorbed, or injected and can occur in various forms and come from several sources. Carcinogens are capable of altering genetic material or causing congenital malformations. Workplace exposure can have serious health effects, so it's important to know the methods to limit exposure, as well as implementing appropriate Standard Operating Procedures for handling carcinogens. It is also important to understand the procedures for the safe use and disposal of cancer-causing substances.

CSUDH Respirator Training

This course covers information relating to respiratory hazards, protection mechanisms, and safe work practices. It also includes information on how to use respiratory protection for protection from hazardous airborne contaminants in the work environment. This course does not include the types of respirators and other protective considerations required when working with ionizing radiation. Learner objectives are to recognize why respiratory protection is necessary; distinguish between employee and employer responsibilities for respiratory protection; identify the nature, extent, and effects of respiratory hazards to which you may be exposed; specify the operation, limitations, and capabilities of respirators; identify respirator selection procedures and practices; specify proper respirator use and inspection practices; recognize proper respirator maintenance, cleaning, and storage practices; and identify respirator malfunction and follow-up procedures.
