For incoming first-year students in the following STEM majors: Mathematics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Computer Science and Physics.

Math Placement for STEM Majors @ CSUDH

You will be placed in either MAT 153 (Pre-Calculus) or MAT 103 (Introduction to College Algebra) for Fall 2020, based on the placement you received from the Chancellor's Office. You may be able to take a different course by participating in the summer Calculus Success Academy, or by earning a 3 or higher on the Calculus AB or BC AP exams. Click here for more information.

The Calculus Success Academy will give you a chance to review the specific algebra skills that you need to be successful in Calculus, connect with other STEM majors and take a placement exam where you can qualify to take a course that will shorten your path to Calculus.

Schedule

You can begin working on learning modules as soon as you sign up! Placement exams will be given June 22 - August 7. You will have up to 5 attempts to take the exam to place into a different course. Workshops will be held online on Fridays June 26, July 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31 @ 1 pm. You will be required to attend at least 4 workshops, where you will be connecting with other STEM students to work on interesting problems and hone your problem solving skills for fall!

Technology

To participate in the Calculus Success Academy, you will need to have a laptop or tablet with working camera, microphone, and audio, a reliable internet connection, and a commitment to working independently on learning modules and attending virtual workshops on Fridays throughout the summer.
