Leadership and Creative Expression

This three-day conference is offered in the Group Relations tradition which is a unique opportunity to study the conscious and unconscious dynamics involved in how groups organize themselves and interact with each other. This conference is not a passive learning event that relies upon lectures. Instead, the learning is experiential. Participants study how leadership, followership, authority, task, boundaries, and roles operate in the different group experiences they enter during the conference. The conference will weave art and other non-verbal forms of expression into the conference events to illuminate unconscious dynamics operating in the system of group interactions that members and staff will create together.

Please Note: Experiential learning is enriching but may be stressful. Individuals who are ill or experiencing a period of significant personal difficulty may consider postponing participation.

This event is open to staff, faculty, community and current CSUDH students who are enrolled in PSY571, as well as current and former CSU students and the South Bay community at large. A typical group relations conference involves membership pricing in the range of $300-500. Registration pricing for this conference varies from $0 (PSY571 CSUDH students) to $100 (full time students) to $250 (Grex members) to $300 (General Admission); this pricing is substantially reduced with the conscious intent to increase access. We rely on this money to cover the costs of the event and make it possible; that said, if you are unable to afford this pricing but still want to attend please email Tara Victor, Associate Director for Conference Administration, at to inquire about scholarships.
