Minimum Requirements


Admission to the MPA program is a two-step process as applicants must first meet the University requirements in addition to the Program requirements.

Minimum CSUDH Admission Requirements

  • Hold an acceptable baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. 
    *Effective spring 2020, degree must be conferred one semester prior to the semester of applying i.e. spring 2020 graduates can apply for fall 2020. Summer 2020 is not an admission option.
  • Must be in good standing at the last institution attended.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 either cumulatively or in the last 60 semester/90 quarter units.
  • International Applicants Only: Attain a minimum score of 550 paper-based, 213 CBT or 80 IBT on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test OR attain a minimum score of 6.5 overall on the International English Testing System (IELTS) test. Additional MPA Department Admission Requirements

  • Have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) upper division units OR 2.75 cumulative GPA.
  • A college-level math course equivalent to one that meets the university's General Education Reasoning Requirement in our Academic Catalog. Grade of "B" or better is required.
  • Work experience (one year's work experience preferred)
  • Statement of Purpose detailing your background, career path, professional interests, and how you plan to use your MPA degree.
  • If applicant's GPA falls below the minimum requirements and/or fails to meet the college-level math requirement, two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references are required. 

    *Anyone applying after the Program Application Deadline may not receive financial aid by the tuition payment deadline.
