Drop-in verses Appointment

Depending on the type of question(s) you have, you may need to come by University Advisement Center for drop-in general education advising office, or you may need to schedule an appointment with an Advisor. Here are some very general guidelines of what can be answered during 10-15 minutes drop-in advising, and what requires an 1:1 appointment. (You may schedule one of the following appointments: in person, Phone, or Zoom).

Drop-In Advising (10-15 mins)

  • General Info about Probation and/or Disqualification
  • GE course(s)
  • One Semester Course Planning
  • Overall Graduation Requirements
  • How to Choose a Major
    • *Signature on COMPLETED Petition
  • Resources Understanding CSUDH Majors/Minors

Appointment with Advisor (30 mins)

  • Petition for Reinstatement
  • Discrepancy Reports
  • New Transfer Student (with evaluated Transcripts)
  • Former Students Returning
  • Graduation Planning
  • Advisor Referrals
  • Multi-Semester Course Planning
  • GPA Calculation
  • Summer School Planning
  • General Education Course Substitution Petitions
  • University Petition
  • More than 1 question

To see an advisor or Peer Academic Coach, check in at WH 200. Your Student ID is required. Sign-in at the front desk to see an advisor or peer academic coach. 

Drop-ins will begin 15 minutes prior to the start of drop-in hours and last the student sign-in will be 15 minutes before the close of walk-ins.

All students that have general advising questions will meet with a Peer Academic Coach and their assigned College based Retention Specialists.
