Tutoring

UBMS offers after school tutoring twice a week at each target school. Participants are encouraged to meet with a tutor/mentor at least once a week. Participants do not necessarily need to require tutoring in order to use the tutoring room; they may also attend tutoring hours to conduct homework/study time.

Our Tutor/Mentors will be on site at both Leuzinger High and Hawthorne High School, providing assistance to participants in all of their academic needs, whether it's homework, SAT preparations, or an array of other subjects. Tutoring and mentoring services will be provided so participants can feel confident and prepared when they encounter rigorous tasks throughout the school year and beyond. Participants will also be provided with workshops and study skills, in preparation for intensive classes. UBMS will also provide workshops on careers, majors, financial aid, and life skills.

In addition, Tutor/Mentors encourage participants to stay in school, explore potential careers, and prepare for college. Participants accomplish college-bound goals through sharing academic, career, and life objectives with their Tutor/Mentors, and in turn recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science fields. To this end, Tutor/Mentors communicate through monthly FYI folders, phone calls, meetings, and emails.
