Course Description:

How can the study of art, history, literature, philosophy and film make us more attuned to our surrounding world? This course will tackle environmental issues such as drought, melting glaciers, rising oceans, pollution and global resource exploitation through a discussion of how ideas of the “human” have always been defined in relation to nature, animals and environment. We will look at an eclectic set of “texts” including nature poetry, the philosophy of Immanuel Kant, Hollywood disaster movies, digital projects such as 100 Views of Climate Change, and even the popular mobile game Pokémon Go.
