CSUDH's instructor-led Medical Insurance Billing program, conducted live online, is designed to give the students an in-depth understanding of complex issues involved in the medical insurance billing industry.

Medical insurance billing is a stable and lucrative field within the medical industry. The business office of every healthcare provider must provide proper documentation to a number of insurance companies for reimbursement for services. Opportunities for employment of insurance billers include physicians' offices, clinics, hospitals, and medical supply companies. The demand is driven by the growing need for healthcare services of an aging population as well as the need for individuals able to handle the complexities of paper and electronic information.

Students will gain practical knowledge to enhance their understanding of medical insurance billing practices as well as learn skills required to operate efficiently in today's medical offices, hospitals and clinics.

This program is designed to provide students with comprehensive training in medical insurance billing. Each course will provide building blocks for those seeking a career in a physician's office, hospital or clinic as well as for those who are seeking to augment and improve their skills.

There are NO special eligibility requirements for this program. Prerequisites are recommended to enhance the learning experience.

Certificate: Course Requirements

A Certificate of Completion is awarded upon successful completion of all courses. Those who do not wish to pursue a certificate may take individual courses.

The Location

Classes are held live online via Zoom. Medical Insurance Billing classes are convenient for people living and working in or near Los Angeles, Torrance, Long Beach, Carson, Compton, El Segundo, Lomita, Harbor City, Palos Verdes, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, San Pedro, Lawndale, Hawthorne, Gardena, Westchester, Ladera Heights, Lakewood, Paramount, Bellflower, Downey, Inglewood, Wilmington, and other parts of the South Bay and Southern California.

Vickie Morgan, MIB FacultyVictoria Morgan FHFMA, MS has been the Director of Revenue Cycle at Tahoe Forest Health System since 2018, at which she is responsible for all parts of the Revenue Cycle for including but not limited to 2 hospitals, a cancer center, a surgery center and 4 Rural Health Centers. In all, she manages the billing and collection functions of over 150 providers. She is also the Principal for Morgan and Associates Health Care Consulting Firm. Ms. Morgan has nearly 30 years of healthcare finance experience.

Picture of Peggi Ann AmstutzPeggi Ann Amstutz has over 30 years of experience in the healthcare revenue cycle industry, providing leadership to consulting projects from both the provider side as well as the consulting side. Her credentials include MBA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer, and CPC Approved-Instructor. She created an industry reputation for her Revenue Cycle and CDM project management skills and is adept in compliance, coding and revenue integrity-oriented focused engagements. Her educational skills include coaching hospital teams, developing educational content, and presenting seminars from basic coding to revenue integrity compliance.

Peggi Ann is not only an industry leader (in past roles as Committee Chair, Officer, and President of the Washington/Alaska HFMA and current Nevada HFMA Director) but also has an extensive background in health system Revenue Integrity programs and policy development. In addition to her proven ability to interpret Federal and State rules and regulations for coding and payment systems, she also has hands-on experience managing daily clinic operations (Free Standing, RHC, and Provider-Based), leading revenue cycle teams for hospitals and physician groups, preparing and monitoring annual revenue and expense budgets, and planning and implementing quality improvement initiatives. Peggi Ann has implementation and management experience in the Epic Systems environment and other HIS systems. She has taught numerous coding classes, claim form integrity courses, CDM management, and compliance classes. She also possesses an excellent understanding of CMS reimbursement methodologies, compliance standards, and HIPAA.

Note: Once you have completed all the required courses, you may request your certificate via our online application. The processing time is approximately 6-8 weeks from the time of submission, and includes both a digital certificate link and a printed physical certificate.

 Information & Registration

The deadline to enroll for courses for most certificate programs is FOUR (4) BUSINESS DAYS or earlier before the class begins; course schedules are updated daily. If a course in which you are interested is no longer displaying in the course schedule, please be aware that its registration deadline may have already passed, or the course may have already reached capacity. Review the schedule for alternate dates, or sign up for Program Updates to be notified of upcoming classes.

 

READ CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING!

New Students

  • If you are a new to CSUDH and have never taken a course through CSUDH Continuing Education, simply select the course you want to take, click on the Cart icon to register, input your personal information, and pay for your class(es).

Current Students

  • If you are an existing CSUDH Continuing Education student who has been active in the past 6 months, you will use your regular CSUDH login information.
  • If you are an existing CSUDH Continuing Education student who has been active within the past 2 years, but who has not been active in the past 6 months, you will need to reset your password by visiting https://csudh.edu/password

All Other CCPE Students

  • If you are a past CSUDH Continuing Education student who has NOT been active within the past 2 years, please register for your first (returning) course as though you are new student. 
  • If you are an existing CSUDH Continuing Education student who has forgotten your username, student ID number, and/or Toromail address, please call the CCPE Registration Office at 310-243-3741 (Option 1) during Office Hours to retrieve this information.

Current Admitted CSUDH (Non-Continuing Ed) Students

  • ⚠ If you are a currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate CSUDH student who wishes to take a CSUDH Continuing Education course for the first time, please call the CCPE Registration Office at 310-243-3741 (Option 1) during Office Hours to get registered. (Please note that CCPE courses cannot be registered through MyCSUDH.)


 

When you're ready to register, select the " Add" button to the left of your desired course(s), and then select the " Cart" to begin the Checkout process.

If the course you want to register for has a prerequisite, after selecting "Checkout & Pay", you must Log In using your CSUDH campus credentials so that the system can verify that you have completed the required prerequisite course.
