The Community College Teaching Certificate is a graduate-level program that provides a course of study for those seeking to prepare for a career in community college teaching. This program is also designed to serve working professionals in the field who are seeking career advancement. The program offers a well-rounded learning experience based on theory blended with a teaching practicum.
Please note: The program consists of 2 academic courses (GED 548 & GED 549), followed by a teaching internship (GED 594S). Completing GED 548 & GED 549 each with a grade of "B" or better is a PRE-REQUISITE for the internship (GED 594S); you CANNOT sign up for the internship without first successfully completing the required academic courses.
Participants should hold a master's degree in a subject area taught at the community college level, or be in a final phase of a graduate degree program, or be currently employed as an instructor in a community college.

The Community College Teaching Certificate is conducted both in-person and online using Zoom and the Canvas Learning Management System. Live virtual class sessions will be conducted at the day/time indicated in the program schedule. Attendance at all class sessions is required.

This 17th edition of Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges is an update of the disciplines lists including those noticed to the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges (Board of Governors) at the July 12 and September 20, 2021 meetings. The handbook incorporates changes that resulted from recommendations from the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges and its delegates, and a comprehensive review of regulations regarding the minimum qualifications and disciplines lists. This edition amends the previous edition and is effective immediately to be employed as appropriate in each community college district.
A Certificate of Completion is awarded upon successful completion of the required courses.
Note: Once you have completed all the required courses, you may request your certificate via our online application. The processing time is approximately 6-8 weeks from the time of submission, and includes both a digital certificate link and a printed physical certificate.
