Master of Arts in the Humanities Online

Admission Requirements

The minimum requirements for admission to graduate and post baccalaureate studies at a California State University campus are in accordance with University regulations as well as Title 5, Chapter 1, Subchapter 3 of the California Code of Regulations.

Specifically, a student shall at the time of enrollment:

  • have completed a four-year college course of study and hold an acceptable baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association, or shall have completed equivalent academic preparation as determined by appropriate campus authorities;
  • be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended;
  • have earned a grade point average of at least 2.5 on the last degree completed by the candidate or have attained a grade point average of at least 2.5 (A=4.0) in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted; and
  • satisfactorily meet the professional, personal, scholastic, and other standards for graduate study, including qualifying examinations, as appropriate campus authorities may prescribe.

Admission Procedures

First Stage

The first stage requires submitting a Program Application. Interested students can obtain an application by emailing huxassistant@csudh.edu. Program applications are due to huxassistant@csudh.edu by January 31 for application for the Fall term. After we receive all the Program Applications, our admissions committee will carefully select 25-30 students who will then be invited to participate in the second stage of the application process. These decisions will be made by the end of February.

Second Stage

The second stage of the application process is the formal CSU Application to our program. Since these applications require several lengthy and time-intensive workarounds in order to be successfully entered into the CSU Apply system, we can only send them to successful applicants. All admission offers will be conditional upon the successful completion of this formal application, the receipt of all official college transcripts, and the payment of a $70 application fee. Students will have until May 1 to submit their materials to our office. All students who complete the second stage of the application will receive letters welcoming them to the program, along with enrollment instructions and other introductory materials.

Send all of the above materials to:

Early Enrollment Option

You can enroll in one or two courses prior to official admission if you wish to try out the program before fully committing to it. HUX courses taken prior to official admission are considered transfer units and will count against our six-unit transfer limit.
