Vice President/CDEIO

Message from the Vice President

Headshot of Bobbie PorterDear Campus Community,

Welcome to our website! As the inaugural Vice President and Campus Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, I am excited to lead the sixth and newest division of the university, the Division of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ).

This new division helps set the tone for CSUDH to become the socially just, equitable, and inclusive Model Urban University. This work cannot and will not be done in siloes. Every Toro has a role in realizing our aspirations toward becoming this model institution. With this, the division collaborates across the campus community to develop, enhance, and implement institutional initiatives that advance our goals in alignment with the Going Far Together strategic plan.

Since I began my tenure at CSUDH on July 1, 2022, I have focused my efforts on:

  • Establishing a baseline for campus climate
  • Assessing current DEIJ efforts
  • Creating a framework for identity-based support and services, and
  • Engaging in foundational, definitional work surrounding our Going Far Together (GFT) strategic plan.

As a result of these efforts, we better understand our greatest opportunities for growth and transformation around social justice. With these in mind, as a division, we developed a strategic direction that embraces Inclusive Excellence practices and supports DEIJ culture change here at CSUDH.

The section below outlines divisional ambitions over the next three academic years (2023-2026). This outline will serve as our roadmap to achieving our future state. This strategic direction will help the division prioritize our efforts as new initiatives and opportunities arise. As the work unfolds, we will continually assess and adjust our efforts and articulate their outcomes and impact on student success. I encourage you to check back periodically, as this page will be updated to include links to metrics, data, and other evidence of progress toward our goals.

The critical work of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice on our campus will require deep, sustained partnership across all areas of our institution and community. I look forward to the opportunity to collectively create a campus that is more diverse, equitable, and inclusive for all.

In Community,

Bobbie R. Porter, Ed.D.
