Biography

Nestor Garza is PhD in Land Economy by the University of Cambridge (2015), and
M.Sc. Economist by Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Bogotá). His main research
area is Spatial Economic Analysis, including but not limited to Geographic Information
Systems applied to Land Markets, Regulation and Taxation. His research has been
published in top academic outlets like Urban Studies, Land Use Policy, Public Finance
Review and The Journal of Property Research, and funded by diverse agencies including
the World Bank, the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, The Korean Research Institute
for Human Settlements, and Antofagasta plc.

 
Nestor has more than 18 years of academic experience, including 8 years of full-time,
university-level teaching and research in both Urban Planning and Economics. Previous
appointments include the Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of
Washington and Universidad del Norte (Colombia).

  
Full Scholarship for PhD Studies (Colciencias, Colombia), and Masters (The Lincoln
Institute of Land Policy), where he graduate with honors and undergraduate summa cum
laude. Nestor has also obtained Merit Awards from AREUA (American Real Estate
Association) in the Singapore PhD contest (2012), and from Universidad Javeriana (Cali,
Colombia) in its essays contest (2010).

 
Consultant for government and industry on a wide range of economic topics with policy
implications, including local industrial development, criminality, and housing markets.
He has presented his research in conferences and meetings in both North and South
America, Europe and Asia. Highly proficient in oral and written communication in both
English and Spanish. Able to tailor information for different audiences, including virtual
media and newspapers. Demonstrated skills in leadership and mentoring, as well as
working in diverse cultural environments.
