Orientation

Due to COVID-19, office staff will be working remotely. However, in order to ensure that we continue to meet your needs and respond in a timely manner to your questions, please feel free to contact us at orientation@csudh.edu regarding New Student Orientation.

In response to the current public health emergency, CSUDH is transitioning New Student Orientation programming to an online format. Participation in New Student Orientation is still mandatory, and students must register for New Student Orientation by the deadline in order to be eligible for fall enrollment. The deadline to submit the Intent to Enroll and register and pay for NSO has been extended to June 1, 2020.

Students who have registered for NSO will receive more information about the process for completing the online orientation in May. The New Student Orientation program is committed to ensuring that the incoming class of students will receive an onboarding experience that prepares them well for their first term as new Toros.

When is Orientation?

Transfer & Returning NSO sessions are scheduled throughout June and July. Students may select the date that works best for them, on a first-come, first serve basis. Seating is limited and the dates listed below may not be available if you wait too long to register. Registration closes June 1st, so we encourage you to register early. Conditionally admitted students are able to register for NSO after submitting the Intent to Enroll and paying the $125 deposit.

Please be aware that summer travel plans are not considered an approved reason to miss NSO. We highly recommend scheduling your summer travel plans around NSO, as NSO is a mandatory enrollment requirement.

Who Can Attend?

New Student Orientation is open to conditionally admitted students who have submitted their Intent to Enroll and paid the $125 intent to enroll deposit by the June 1st deadline. Students who do not meet admission requirements or deadlines are not eligible to attend NSO. Students who are waitlisted or in the process of appealing an admissions decision are not eligible to attend NSO.

Students will only receive full admission once final transcripts are received and verified by the admissions office. The final transcript deadline is July 15, 2020. There may be instances in which a student attends NSO and then their admissions status changes based on a review of final transcripts.

In response to the current public health emergency, CSUDH is transitioning New Student Orientation programming to an online format. For the 2020 orientation season, we will offer a free online orientation for guests and families to learn more about the university.

How Do I Register for NSO?

New Student Orientation registration is open to conditionally admitted students who have submitted their Intent to Enroll and paid the $125 intent to enroll deposit by the June 1st deadline. Students must register and pay the $99 NSO fee by June 1, 2020.

Registration for NSO occurs in the my.CSUDH.edu account. Students must submit the Intent to Enroll before they are eligible to register for NSO.

To register for NSO, log into your myCSUDH portal. At the top of the portal, make sure to click on Applicants Tab. Inside the Applicants Tab, click on Admissions, then click on NSO Registration Status. You must submit intent to enroll before you are able to register for NSO.

What Do I Have To Do Before I Attend?

You will need to meet a number of requirements before you can register for Transfer/Returning New Student Orientation (NSO):

  1. Activate your my.CSUDH.edu account. Your login information was included in your acknowledgement letter. If you are having difficulties activating your account please contact the IT Help Desk at (310) 243-2500.
  2. Activate your ToroMail account and check it regularly, so you do not miss important information that may be sent to you.
  3. Make sure you have met all your other deadlines, such as Financial Aid and Admissions. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is due March 2 and supporting documents by May 10. Although submitting a FAFSA application is not required to attend NSO, students interested in applying for financial aid should do so well before NSO, in case there are issues or documentation that is required. You will be able to speak with a Financial Aid representative during NSO.
  4. Submit your Intent to Enroll and your $125 deposit (which will be applied toward your tuition) by June 1, 2020.
How Much Does NSO Cost?

The fee for New Student Orientation is $99. Students must submit payment for Orientation to finish and finalize their NSO registration. All Orientation fees are non-refundable regardless of whether the student does not attend the NSO date or their admission status changes.

I Have Registered for NSO, What Should I Expect?

The day prior to your scheduled NSO, you will receive an email with further information about how to access the modules for your NSO date. We will be using a combination of Blackboard and Zoom Meetings on your NSO date. Students will be expected to log into Blackboard no later than 8:30am. Mandatory orientation sessions will be delivered via Zoom from 8:30am to 12:00pm. Students will complete course registration on the day of their scheduled orientation date. We take attendance for NSO, so you must log into the NSO Blackboard Organization no later than 8:30am. Please plan accordingly.

In order to ensure a smooth orientation experience, you will need access to a computer (preferably one with a mic) and reliable internet access on the day of your scheduled NSO date. We also encourage all students to have electronic (PDF preferred) copies of all transcripts, as advisors may request to view unofficial transcripts. Unofficial transcripts can be used for advising purposes; however final official transcripts are due to the Admissions office by July 15.

NSO is a mandatory enrollment requirement. Students are expected to complete all NSO activities (pre-orientation and scheduled NSO date) to remain eligible for fall 2020 enrollment. Students who do not complete NSO are not eligible for fall enrollment, and would need to reapply for the following open academic term. Students who were not able to complete their scheduled NSO requirement on the day of their orientation can submit a NSO Petition for consideration. NSO Petitions are not guaranteed for approval. To request more information about the NSO Petition process, please email orientation@csudh.edu.

If you have questions regarding the NSO requirement, or the policies regarding orientation, please email orientation@csudh.edu.
